I really can’t say enough good things about this family owned company! From benefits to competitive pay scales and beyond, the owners and upper management really do care about the employees and treat each team member as a family member! Processing payroll for 100+ employees can be quite challenging at times, but very rewarding in that I get to meet almost every new hire. I’ve had the opportunity to have many roles within the company, and I am positive that I will continue to learn and grow and will try to become a more valuable asset to the ER Jahna family!

          Mine Overview

          Green Bay Sand Mine

Located 5.5 miles North of the intersection of Interstate 4 and US Highway 27, E.R. Jahna’s flagship facility is centrally located between the Orlando and Tampa, FL markets. The mine utilizes a primary wash plant and classifying secondary plant. The plants are fed by one of two large cutter head dredges. The redundancies of this location enable the mine to be a reliable supplier of large volumes of quality sand. Sitting on a footprint of roughly 10,000 acres, the Green Bay Sand Mine is situated to meet the needs of the growing Central Florida markets for decades to come.

                  Environment

The owners and senior management of E.R. Jahna Industries, Inc. are multi-generation Floridians. Our company family, like yours, wants to insure that future generations can enjoy the quiet beauty of our wonderful state. Every mining operation we consider begins only after exhaustive planning and study to assure that we minimize and avoid adverse impact on our natural environment. This sensitivity to preserving local natural resources as well as protecting public safety and health for our grandchildren, our neighbors, and the community permeates our entire company and controls every project that Jahna undertakes.

                  Stewardship

We take stewardship of the land very seriously. Local, state and federal regulations require our mining operations to protect and manage the water resources, wildlife, air, wetlands, and cultural resources of our properties where sand is extracted. Jahna works closely with the regulatory agencies and teams of consulting scientists and engineers to properly plan and execute our mining operations, and to utilize low impact, environmentally safe mining practices. We strive to maintain compliance with all environmental laws, regulations, and permit conditions, and to effectively mitigate impacts to wetlands.

                  Reclamation

After mining has ceased, our lands are reshaped and reclaimed to transition the mined areas back to useable landforms consistent with safe reclamation standards. We do this so the land and natural resources can be enjoyed by the next generation and beyond.

                  The Original Sand Man

Emil Richard Jahna, Jr Emil R. Jahna Jr.

Emil Richard Jahna Jr., our Founder, was born to Emil Richard Sr. of Landskrom, Bohemia and Nola Edwina Hughes of Elizabethton, TN in 1924. Shortly after, Emil Richard Sr. started Ridge Stone & Tile Company and the family moved to Lake Wales, FL where we still operate out of today.

Our founder, Emil Jr. grew up working at the family business where he learned about sand and concrete. In 1942 he left to join the 71st Seabees of the US Navy where he served for three years in their Pacific construction battalion.

Upon returning, Emil Jr. decided to start his own company which eventually became ER Jahna Industries. A true business man, his word and a handshake was better than a contract, and he could always be found with one pant leg in and one pant leg out of his boots.

He married Jeanne Allen Bardin in 1954 and the two had five children together. Emil Jr. passed away in 1996. His children and grandchildren have carried on his legacy and love of sand. Now on their fourth generation of Jahnas, the company remains family owned and stays true to the principles it was founded on.

                  Corporate Office

E.R. Jahna’s corporate and administrative office is located in historic downtown Lake Wales, Florida. It was Lake Wales where Emil Jahna Sr. brought his family in 1925 from Sarasota, Florida to open Ridge Stone and Tile. The manufacturing of concrete roof tile requires the use of sand, and it was in the Ridge Stone and Tile days that mining sand became part of the Jahna family. From the humble beginnings in a three room house remodeled into an office in 1961, the company eventually grew into a larger office which they built in 1980 beside the original corporate location on Tillman Avenue. It was there the company operated for 20 years. In 1999, Jahna purchased and renovated the Caldwell – Temple building on Stuart Avenue in downtown Lake Wales as the new corporate office. The building was vacant at the time and it took over a year to renovate and build out the office space as it is today. Originally built in the early 1920’s, the building had been a furniture store, casket manufacturer, and Masonic Lodge, among other uses. After the renovation and with the help of the Lake Wales Historical Society, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of Interior. E.R. Jahna moved into the Stuart Avenue location in 2001.

                  A Letter from the Family

Having had the opportunity to work alongside our father for many years, it was instilled in us the importance of high moral values in our personal life as well as our professional careers. We were raised on the values of integrity, honesty, trust, loyalty and hard work and we work diligently to keep these high standards as part of the company’s focus. We believe that doing the right thing and treating people fair is what makes our company unique. Our father taught us that your word should be your contract and to work as partners with your employees, suppliers, customers and surrounding community so that we all may thrive.

While we may be rooted in the past, we are also focused on the future and building relationships that will last. We strive to pass along all of the same values we were founded on to the next generation of owners and Jahna employees. As we advance our technology and equipment, and our footprint evolves, our values and beliefs stay the same.

We are grateful for this accomplished company and for the opportunity to continue to grow. We look forward to supplying superior products and service to our customers and providing a place to build careers, all while making positive impacts in the communities we represent.

We are proud to be American owned and independently operated and proud that so many customers put their trust into the products that we supply.family bottom row
